Virgin Blonde Organic Lager

Image

Released June ‘08, Virgin Blonde is our first organic offering from our certified brewery. It is a premium low-carb, blonde (it is pale) lager, made from lightly roasted barley, that has been grown in virgin soil, without the use of pesticides and herbicides. The grain hasn’t been fumigated (as is normally the case) and the brewing process is independently certified free from chemical additions. This beer has no sugar added in production, and does not contain any of the following processing aids usually used in mainstream brewing.

    Protease
    Rhoiso-alpha acids
    Sulphur Dioxide
    Ammonia caramel
    Di-Ammonium Phosphate
    Polyvinylpolypyrrolidinone
    Silica
    Carbohydrate adjunct
    Propylene glycol-alginate

Q. And what beer does you may ask?
A. Most of the ones your drinking now from the major brewers.

At 4.0% alcohol, (1.0 standard drink) Virgin Blonde is designed as a light refreshing thirst quencher, with enough zip to make you feel responsibly warm and fuzzy. It is made with the goodness of German brewing and chemical free farming practices at its heart.

We are prohibited by law from advertising any alcoholic drink as healthy, so we do not claim this. But if you do value your health, and also like a beer, there is no beer on the market where more has been done with your health in mind!

Platt’s Folly

Image

Like Steel River Lager, it is an all malt beer, but fermented warmer and triple hopped to give increased flavor and aroma.
We use a blend of Australian and German grains, predominantly New Zealand grown hops and American yeast developed in the Californian gold rush of the 1850’s to make a unique, complex beer.

In 1821, John Laurio Platt, Newcastle’s first free settler, was granted 2000 acres of his choice on the Hunter River. He named his estate “Ironbark Hill”, and erected a windmill to harvest timber.

However, after his attempts at timber milling, wheat farming and coal mining subsequently proved unsuccessful, the locals came to refer to his land as “Platt’s Folly”.

If only he had tried his hand at brewing!

Today, Steel River Brewery stands on the banks of the Hunter River adjacent to the site of Platt’s original homestead.

Platt's Folly Old World Lager is handcrafted in the style of 19th Century lagers: pure and full flavoured, with no added sugar or preservatives. So enjoy it today and still feel good tomorrow!
